Coventry Very Light Rail

Entering Transport Infrastructure: Coventry VLR

NP Aerospace expanded its work into the transport infrastructure sector, with the construction of a prototype innovative light rail vehicle for the City of Coventry. The Coventry Very Light Rail (VLR) is an innovative, battery powered light rail system designed to run on the local road network. NP Aerospace was selected by Coventry City Council to lead the assembly programme, alongside WMG at the University of Warwick and Transport Design International (TDI).

Innovation and Design Benefits

The first of its kind, the lightweight rail based VLR was devised to be a faster and cheaper alternative to traditional tram systems. The carbon structure vehicle is a zero-emission mode of transport capable of comfortably carrying a large number of passengers.

Project Status

The Coventry VLR is continuing to progress with trials ongoing in the city.
