The 4030 ELITE: A New Generation of EOD Protection
In 2020 NP Aerospace introduced a next generation bomb disposal suit designed to meet global market specifications. First produced for the MOD in Ireland, The 4030 ELITE Bomb Disposal Suit and Helmet System is the result of extensive collaboration with EOD operators and uses cutting edge technology to meet the requirements of NIJ 0117.01*, the US National Institute of Justice Public Safety Bomb Suit standard. The suit delivered a new approach to EOD protection, offering superior survivability and enhanced ergonomics at a reduced weight, along with a user configurable and scalable platform.
The Challenge of NIJ Certification
A considerable amount of work went into achieving the NIJ certification; the team at NP Aerospace had to interpret the standards, working through over 100 requirement lines to ensure all the criteria were met. The suit needed to come under a certain weight and be available in a set number of sizes. With hundreds of components to consider and contend with from zips, clips and buckles to soft armour, a hard armour breast plate and glass for the advanced visor, a great deal of research, development and testing went into ensuring the suit would deliver on ballistics, performance, fit, form, mobility and optics.
Quick Release and Global Deployment
A patented two pull quick release system enables removal of the suit in less than 30 seconds, and the suit also features a drag rescue feature for emergency extraction.
The 4030 Elite was a significant cost investment and is the most complex product within the NP Aerospace personal protection portfolio; the suit was designed, built, tested and certified in just two years and is now used all over the world.
